Dom Joly Talks With Anarchadia About Hillary Clinton, Warmongerers, And Iran…

Dom Joly has become famous for his humerous prank show called Trigger Happy in the U.K, and Dom is a regular writer for the UK Independent. He is known mainly for yelling hello into an over sized Nokia Telephone, and dressing up like squirrels with his friends and robbing the nuts from a liquor store. But what less people know is that a few years ago he wrote a book about Dark Tourism, and in it he talks about going to ski in Iran, and visiting North Korea. We decided to interview him, about a few of his thoughts, about Geopolitics today.
ANARCHADIA: Will you be writing that book idea about a westerner pretending to kidnap himself?
DOM JOLY: I thought it was a marvelous idea. I have written a screenplay on the idea… I like it a lot but it’s my first one so probably needs work.
ANARCHADIA: I thought your visit to Iran very interesting, and was wondering, how you have been handling current affairs about Iran since?
DOM JOLY: With Hillary Clinton, Robert Gates, and the other warmongering powers all nudging each other giddily, to go and attack it. America has a Vietnam complex about Iran ever sine they “humiliated” Carter with the hostages and the botched rescue atempt. I think they will always have this itch until they manage to depose the Mullahs.
ANARCHADIA:Do you think that you were lucky to survive Iran? Americans have a tendency to believe, that if they go there, they will immediately be kidnapped. Had you considered the possibility of having been mistaken for a spy, and arrested? Or is all this fear, just a “montage” for lower production costs, in order to escalate wars… whether they be economic or military?
DOM JOLY: I never felt a moment of fear in Iran. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, hospitable and sane. I had a fabulous, time, great skiing and can’t wait to return.
ANRCHADIA: Have you tried to make the Dark Tourist into a television show? Your Happy Hour episode in Australia was somewhat Dark Tourism, especially the part on the aborigine people who get wasted with alcohol. There is also the India episode where you go down to the slums. I think it would be quite brilliant especially with shows like Jesse Ventura Conspiracy Theory on tv in America. Have you seen it? Any comments?
DOM JOLY: I specifically didn’t want it to be TV. I wanted to write a book, a proper boon, not a TV spin-off. To do that you need to head off alone and get lost in a place, not hang out with TV crew and the production safety net. It has been bought by a US TV company though…
ANARCHADIA: Your book taught me something I did not know, and I bet many others who haven’t skied in Iran… : bootlegging of alcohol in Iran. It brought back to mind, an article I had read a few years back, about promiscuous sex around the City of Tehran. City people would go to the outskirts in order to embrace their unwed “accomplices”. But what really caught my eye in your story, was the part about the anti-american flag with the skulls instead of stars, and your inability to get close to it, for fear of being caught by authorities. How do you explain such strong contradictions in Iranian Society?
DOM JOLY: Easily, most people in Iran are normal people with normal fears, desires, needs etc… .However, it is a police state and you don’t want to draw attention to yourself, especially with a Westerner, just not worth it for them, I totally understood this.
